Don't you believe it. Doctors warn about smoking too but women are doing it in big big numbers. I think the real issue here is style. The big shirt wearing, clodhopper shoe stompimg, urban style has crossed over into other modes of dress to the point that even many professional women are wearing suits and other dress clothes with giant shoes their legs can hardly push to the copy machine and back. I don't think that these professional women are wearing these shoe styles because they are comfortable, many have fairly high heels anyway. I think they wear them to act young and stylish. Heels were not any more comfortable in the 50's, 70's or the 80's than they are today, but they were in style then. When the transient girl of the moment pop culture icons on MTV start wearing heels (as happened in the '80s), it will spill over into the rest of popular culture again. I'm not saying they will comeback soon but heels, and particularly pumps, represent a classic style that is sometimes more popular or less popular, but always out there. For now, I just appreciate nice looking classic heels on, half on, or off of a pretty womans feet when I am lucky enough to see them. : Given the fact that doctors are warning women not to wear heels because of how much damage it can cause to their feet and health, I just don't see pumps making are going to make a comeback. Even if it does, I see that even fewer women will be wearing it, which virtually means none.
