Your great story reminded me of the time my wife lost a shoe at a race track. It happened back in the early 80s at a 1/2 mile dirt track where we raced stock cars. She was wearing a pair of those backless platform wedgies with nylons, jeans, and a halter top. She was crossing the track, which was still wet and very sticky, to the infield. She knew she was in trouble just as soon as she got onto the track, but tried to make it across without losing her shoes. She did pretty good, digging her toes into the shoes as she struggled through the gooey mud. Halfway across, she stepped into a spot that was particularly deep and muddy and off came the shoe. She managed to make it to the infield, hopping on one 4-inch wedgie and saturating her bare nylon foot with mud. We retrieved the shoe for her and cleaned it off. She wore them the rest of the evening without her nylons. Needless to say, that was the last time she wore those shoes to the track.
