I had a classmate whose last name was, coincidentally, "Foote." She had just moved to the area, and had a habit of wearing dressy shoes. There were two pairs she wore regularly; one was a pair of ivory woven flats (kind of hard to explain), the other a pair of patent leather black flats with ribbons on the toes. She never wore them barefooted, preferring either socks or dressier stockings (note that she wore these with jeans, skirts, anything!). She was a definite dipper, and one day was dipping in lace stockings with her patent flats when I dropped a pen. I leaned down to pick it up, which gave me a better look at her feet...if I had been a pervert I might have tried for a little tickle but I was clean to the point where I wouldn't say "hell" amongst my friends, so that wasn't going to happen. I must add that her last name was all-too-coincidentally "Foote."

And the year before that, I recall two foot stories. One was a cute girl (I'm in law class with her this year) who often wore skirts with black tights and loose-fitting black moccasins. On the playground at recess, she had a habit of heelpopping as she walked, though I can't remember any classtime moments (at least this year I've seen her feet once or twice). Then, another girl I had become friendly with wore a long denim skirt with tights and white flats to school. However, it being winter, we all wore boots to school and changed into our shoes for class. At the end of the day, I was lamenting our long driveway when she complained about having to walk up her driveway wearing flats...then, to illustrate, she removed one to show me the lack of traction the flat soles provided.

Eighth grade, I had a teacher who wore purple flats with a brushed-leather look. She didn't dip often, but the week after April vacation, she wore those shoes without hose (she had been on a cruise and looked a bit sunburned). One day, she was dipping, noticed a kid watching her feet (as I was) and said in response, "My feet hurt." I tried to avert my eyes for the rest of the class so as not to be caught.

Over the last few years, though, none of my classmates have actually been fans of flats...in that I never see any. Some teachers wear them, but the downside to taking honors courses is that I have typically had more male teachers, and the majority of the good-looking teachers teach lower-level classes. Even so, there are occasional bright spots. One girl wears clogs and dips in black tights constantly (I've raved about her before). One biology teacher (I had the guy who gave me a 109% second quarter in Freshman year, while my friends had her) wears skirts almost every day, and I try to steal a glance into her room between AP Bio and study in the cafeteria...just a day or two ago, I walked by to see two red pumps abandoned by the desk, but no teacher in sight. Oh, well. I guess I prefer flats (or pumps with a low, low heel), but primarily when they're the object of some shoeplay...then it doesn't matter as long as they're not solidly on someone's feet.
