Back in my days, they carried a pair of dancing slippers in their purse. When the dancing started, off came the heels and on came the slippers. My wife used to kick her heels off out on the dance floor and carry on! She wouldn't put them back on again until it was time to go home. She doesn't do much of that anymore, but the memories are great.
