I live in the UK and it's pretty much the same thing over here. I go out to nightclubs every other saturday, and I often see girls wearing open toed footwear with bare feet. I'd guess of all the females I see at these clubs wearing open toed mules and sandals, 90% of them wear them barefooted, whilst the other ten percent wear them with tights. That being winter also. I would agree that they are obsessed with it, because it is so very popular. Maybe they find barefoot sandal wearing more fashionable and more comfortable than wearing them with hosiery. I'd say that bare feet would have a far better grip with open toed mules, than being worn with tights anyway. It could also be that these women consider themselves to have very pretty feet, so they go about wearing open toed mules and sandals, just to show them off regardless of the weather. Some girls do indeed have very attractive feet. They may believe that their feet look nicer bare than hosed up. Another point is that girls sometimes paint their toenails, so they can go about with barefoot sandals and painted toes. Toe rings are more common now, and show better with bare feet, so bare foot sandal wearing gives them the opportunity to walk in public and show them off. Perhaps also, some women can't stand hose with sandals anyway. So I would just have to say that it's done because of it's popularity and comfort with them and they adore it to the extent that they don't care less about the cold temperatures, they will still do it. They know that some men find it attractive too. What should really be worn by women in the cold weather, is closed toe footwear with socks or tights. This bare feet and sandals malarky happens all year round now. The girls just keep on doing it, and I bet some of those that do wear hose with them, also occasionally wear them barefoot, winters included. Hope I have helped you resolve your query.
